MEET&GREET: 2ND EDITION OF USORO ABAKPA (MAIZE/CORN) FESTIVAL KICKSTARTS IN UYO TODAY!

The second edition of the prestigious Usoro Abakpa (Maize/Corn) festival commences today Monday 3rd through till Friday 5th July, in the city of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, 9am prompt daily; venue of the event is at the Akwa Ibom State Council For Arts & Culture, Abak Road, Uyo.

Usoro Abakpa is an annual event designed to add value to Abakpa (Maize/Corn) as one of the major food crops in the state and to also promote tourism through drawing global attention and selling the rich cultural/tourism heritage and potentials of Akwa Ibom State.


The objectives of this year's Usoro Abakpa include:

a. Adding commercial value to the meals prepared with maize.

b. To encourage ways and methods of production, preservation and branding of maize.

c. Sensitization on how to use maize as an entrepreneurial tool to enhance and contribute massively to the economy.



Usoro Abakpa (Maize/Corn) festival is the brainchild and sole project of Mrs. Nwedobong Ubeng aka Mama George, a veteran broadcaster with over 22 years experience in the field and currently TV Presenter/Producer of Music Maker (An educational TV Program on rudimentary music and incisive tutorship on how to play musical instruments) airing weekly on AKTV45. A one time 1st Vice Chairlady of PMAN (Performing Musicians Employers' Association of Nigeria) AKS Chapter and an astute musician with an undying love for the profession. Mama George as she is called in the entertainment circle made her first break into music with her hit album 'Eka Idoho Iba (2001)', she also dropped other musical albums including 'Uwa Iban (2005)' and 'Kudia Ikpong (2011)' ; she currently is working on a music drama titled 'Ebok Nne' which is about to hit the screens soonest.
