September 22, 2015 was a day history was written as the original copyright to the popularly accepted birthday song 'Happy Birthday' was declared invalid by a US District Judge who made the song entirely a public domain property without an owner as he adjunctly questioned if the Hill Sisters really wrote the song.
Prior to this ruling, in 1893, the copyright to the song was lawfully obtained by the Clayton F. Summy Company from its original owners and writers, the sisters, Mildred and Patty Hill and sold to Warner/Chappell Music Inc. for a whooping $15 million in 1988.
